Ghosts from the Machine
Paintings by Valerie Patterson
On display June 21 - July 19, 2008
Opening Reception: Sat., June 21 at 7 pm
Creative Spirit is pleased to present “Ghosts From the Machine,” an exhibit featuring the artwork of artist Valerie Patterson. The exhibit will be on display June 21st through July 19th. An opening reception will be held Saturday, June 21st at 7 pm.
Valerie Patterson grew up in Ogdensburg, NY along the St. Lawrence River. She attended SUNY Potsdam and holds a BA in Studio Art with a concentration in Painting and a Masters degree in Education. Patterson has extensively exhibited her award-winning watercolor paintings nationally and internationally as well as regionally in both juried group and solo shows. As well as being a full-time artist, Patterson has been teaching at full-time for the past 23 years.
Patterson combines both photorealism and surrealism in her work to evoke images at once comfortingly familiar and unsettlingly strange. While her painting often reflect elements of the personal, she strives to imbue each with a social consciousness as well, creating images that provoke action, thought and a sense of commonality.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception Saturday, June 21st at 7 pm. Refreshments will be provided. To find out more about the show, check out our website at www.spiritofcreativity.com. Creative Spirit Art Center is located at 6 Raymond Street, off Market Street in downtown Potsdam. Look for us right around the corner from the University Bookstore.
